Inside is the second title from Playdead, refining the stylized take on puzzle-platforming they first provided in Limbo. Plus, the soundtrack slaps, being filled to the brim with absolute bangers. It’s a harrowing sprite-based platforming tale of a young woman named Madeline conquering her fears through a series of tough, grueling platforming challenges tied into themes of guilt, anxiety and confidence. I’ve talked a great deal about Celeste on our website, and there cannot be enough praise heaped towards developer Matt Makes Games. Starting August 29 and lasting a week, you will be able to download Celeste and Inside on the Epic Games Store for free, as noted on the “Coming Soon” section of their website. It seems as though better-over-time AAA games and impeccably great indie games are part of the company’s free release strategy, and that will continue into next week. Fez is the current freebie, while For Honor, Subnautica, Hyper Light Drifter, Enter the Gungeon and others have been past highlights. Though there are a great number of reasons to be upset with the state of the Epic Games Store ahead of the launch of AAA games they purchased timed exclusivity for, one can’t argue against free games.
